Coolest SOB In The Conservative Blogosphere Award 2012

Time to start the nomination process for 2014 – Nominate your favorite blogger for the 2014 “Coolest SOB In The Conservative Blogosphere” contest here

Well the first annual “Coolest SOB In The Conservative Blogoshere” contest is over, and we have our winner — Bigfurhat with IOTW!

Please stop by his blog and congratulate him!

Second place goes to Pamela Geller, and third goes to Oleg @ The People’s Cube, with Wirecutter with Knuckledraggin My Life Away giving him a close race.

First I want to thank everyone for participating, and for being such good sports, and I hope everyone had a little fun playing grab-ass before we get down to serious business of ousting the dipwadd-n-chief.

It has been a blast watching all of the great bloggers nominated go at it. Every one of them displayed the coolness and the good humor that you would expect of conservative bloggers nominated for being the class acts that they are.

Was the contest perfect? No, of course it could have been better. But we did do our level, best to make it fun and fair.

Some of the changes for next year will be an improved simplified handicap system, no ability to nominate yourself,  and the ability to vote multiple times. Plus, I will be taking myself totally out of the picture, by not nominating anyone.

I will provide a link — here on this thread — later so that we can start the 2013 nominee process early — ensuring that no cool bloggers are left out.

Here are awards for the nominees — If I made a mistake or left you out, please let me know.

I can already see that this contest is going to come down to the wire. The late comers are coming on, and it has become a paint swapping race for third place. It is a fun thing to watch.

Keep in mind that this is more of a “Cannon Ball Run” than a drag race. A week is a long old slog where anything can happen.

I’m not saying that lying, cheating, bribing, throwing your buddy under the bus, finding ways to have your readers vote multiple times, or begging someone to drop out so that you can combine your votes is acceptable behavior for winning. But in this crowd, someone who won’t resort those tactics don’t want to win bad enough.

I was taken by surprise at the response to this contest.

First I underestimated the speed that the network of conservative bloggers would spread the word that the voting had begun, and second I was caught off guard by the big boys taking an interest in winning.

I think the handicap did a great job of evening the playing field. I had an egghead buddy check it out, and he said that it was surprisingly linear – egghead for fair I guess.

With that fixed I am moving on to fixing the one month voting window, which I now realize is not necessary. A week should be plenty of time for the late entries to get their people here to vote.

Now the polls will close one week from today – Tuesday June the 5th at midnight.

Sorry that the nomination process is now closed. I left the nomination process open for three months, and then had a two-day late entry window.

You are always welcome to give a shout-out to your favorite blogger in the comment box below.

I will post updates through the week with the spreadsheet-calculated results of who is winning factoring in the handicap.

Update: I have decided on making this contest a little more interesting.  Since so many big name blogs are in the mix, I have decided to create a handicap system based on the Alexa rankings.

Each site has an Alexa raking — #1 being the biggest site in world.  I used Granny Jan’s blog ranking as the baseline number for a small blog in this example. What I will do is take the smallest blog ranking of the blogs entered, and handicap the results like below.

The only difference from this example, will be that I would take the largest blog (probably the lovely Pam Geller),  make her rank (0), and then subtract her rank from the rest of the blog rankings. This would make Pam increase 0% and Granny Jan’s percentage increase would remain 100%. A blog smaller than Granny’s could have an increase of greater than 100%.

You can do the math to see if you are winning. Biggest blog rank subtracted from each ranking – biggest blog rank reduced to (0) – the reduced number of (lower limit) Granny’s original ranking (2,366,741 – ????) divided by the reduced ranking of each blog will give the amount in percent to increase each vote count.

It is pretty easy; even for a Jethro Bodine ciphering dipwadd like me.

Andrew Bolt, ACE of Spades, and Michelle Malkin all received the same ranking as Pam Geller, because the Herald Sun is not a blog, Ace of Spades is a forum, and Malkin is on fox news.  Michael ( and C. Westbrook (“Fore” from Gainesville) did not have an Alexa ranking so I gave them im41’s.

If you nominated someone, please let them know that the vote is on.

So may the coolest SOB win!

About The Contest

There are thousands of super cool personalities in the conservative blogosphere. This award is not only an attempt to find the coolest, but also to celebrate the rest of them.

When I first started blogging, I sent a tip to Andrew Brietbart on just on a whim. It was before he became so famous by bringing down ACORN, but he still was a big time blogger. I almost fell down when I received a return email. I first thought it was a robo-email until I read it. He thanked me and said that he had already run story, but that he appreciated my effort.

I remember thinking “that is one cool SOB.” He took time out of his busy schedule to answer an email from a nobody blogger who was a stranger to boot.

He is not the only blogger out there that excels in: all around coolness, class, common courtesy, etiquette, selflessness, and genuine respect for the efforts of other conservative bloggers — no matter how minimum.

So in honor of him and other classy SOBS like him, I am kicking off the first annual “Coolest SOB In The Conservative Blogoshpere” award.

Every nominee will receive a recognition award. I will place them at the bottom of this thread after the results are in.

The 2nd and 3rd place winners will also receive awards, to commemorate them holding the Coolest SOB In The Conservative Blogoshpere’s balls off the hot pavement while he/she accepts theirs.

  5. BC,  what a lot of work this turned out to be for you. I was off the computer for two months and had no idea this had built such steam until receiving a note from Grumpy who is a very Cool SOB. Congratulations on putting together a successful and fun contest. I’m grateful to be included and appreciate each of the 7 votes. Next time I’ll pay attention and do some blegging:-) Proud to put the badge up. Thank you!

    • conservativeBC says:

Boy it was tons of work, but it was worth it for the fun. I am glad you are back up and blogging.

      Thanks for stopping by Maggie.

  6. BigFurHat says:

I’d like to thank all the little people, particularly Peter Dinklage.

I can’t find a place to cast a vote. Am I too late? My votes are for the Feral Irishman, Copious Gasser, and Wirecutter (even though this crappy websecurity thing won’t let me look at Wirecutters blog from work any more.)

  11. BillD says:

I am looking for the e-ballot form so I can cast a vote. No matter how many times I click on the voting link, I see no means to cast a ballot. What must I do?

  12. What happened to Conservative Outcry BC? I know they were nominated in the comments. Just want my one point…lol.

    • conservativeBC says:

I don’t know, I was starting to hurt and adding blogs a few at a time.

      I hope I didn’t leave one out…

    • conservativeBC says:

I didn’t think that I had missed any – You did this after the nomination process, and the one day grace period was closed.

Adding my own as well – won’t win but cool to be among royalty!

      Conservative Outcry –

      This is written above…

Sorry that the nomination process is now closed. I left the nomination process open for three months, and then had a two day late entry window.

You are always welcome to give a shout-out to your favorite blogger in the comment box below.

  13. Just so you know, the Alexa ranking you have for me is for my OLD (now defunct) blog and not the one that I use now which is not on blogspot but on my own server.
THIS is the location of my blog:
Also, why are only SOME of the blogs hyperlinked (mine isn’t) in the list?

    • conservativeBC says:

I looked at both of your rankings, and they were both the same. About the hyperlink, i guess i just forgot to add it.

    • conservativeBC says:

Also Zilla, I have been in the hospital for two days. Kidney stones hung up half way down and got infected. A lesser man would done be dead.

That is why I have not posted in a few days.

I nominated you, so me trying to short change you somehow is kinda silly, if that is what you are saying?

    • Mia says:

Glad to see you back, BC!

    • I’m sorry that you’ve been so sick! I hope you’re feeling better, i know that sort of thing is very painful! I wasn’t implying anything, I know my blog’s rankings suck, that’s what happens when you have a long term chronic illness that keeps you from being able to do much of anything useful.
Sorry if you’re offended, I did not mean to upset you. I know I will finish near the bottom, I guess I still get bummed that most people still go to the old blog that I don’t use anymore instead of visiting the new site that I’ve had since February, and it makes me grumpy-pants.

There is one name that isn’t on the list and won’t ever be there. That is ConservativeBC.

Hands down he is the Coolest SOB in the Conservative Blogosphere. I fired off a salvo on him yesterday about his blog. He came and commented and gave as good as he got. To me, that’s not only cool, but a class act.

Thanks for having the genius to do this poll.

    • conservativeBC says:

Naaaaa, I couldn’t carry the jock strap of ANY of the people nominated here.

I am just glad I could give these awesome bloggers the opportunity to play a little grab ass before they put a butt kicking on Obama this Fall.

I got the Naaaa, from BFH. He said that in an email; I thought it sounded cool so I stole it.

    Nomination for contest!
I have another to nominate and please consider this site. This person gives Feral Irishman and KnuckleDraggin My Life Away a SERIOUS run for their money. No one is safe from his snark and that is just starters. Here is where you can find his site:

    Copius Gasser

Thanks and love your site. I could ask you to add my site but I will not as it is generally a pretty serious site and I am not out to compete with anyone.
