Well the first annual “Coolest SOB In The Conservative Blogoshere” contest is over, and we have our winner — Bigfurhat with IOTW!
Please stop by his blog and congratulate him!
Second place goes to Pamela Geller, and third goes to Oleg @ The People’s Cube, with Wirecutter with Knuckledraggin My Life Away giving him a close race.
First I want to thank everyone for participating, and for being such good sports, and I hope everyone had a little fun playing grab-ass before we get down to serious business of ousting the dipwadd-n-chief.
It has been a blast watching all of the great bloggers nominated go at it. Every one of them displayed the coolness and the good humor that you would expect of conservative bloggers nominated for being the class acts that they are.
Was the contest perfect? No, of course it could have been better. But we did do our level, best to make it fun and fair.
Some of the changes for next year will be an improved simplified handicap system, no ability to nominate yourself, and the ability to vote multiple times. Plus, I will be taking myself totally out of the picture, by not nominating anyone.
I will provide a link — here on this thread — later so that we can start the 2013 nominee process early — ensuring that no cool bloggers are left out.

I can already see that this contest is going to come down to the wire. The late comers are coming on, and it has become a paint swapping race for third place. It is a fun thing to watch.
Keep in mind that this is more of a “Cannon Ball Run” than a drag race. A week is a long old slog where anything can happen.
I’m not saying that lying, cheating, bribing, throwing your buddy under the bus, finding ways to have your readers vote multiple times, or begging someone to drop out so that you can combine your votes is acceptable behavior for winning. But in this crowd, someone who won’t resort those tactics don’t want to win bad enough.

I was taken by surprise at the response to this contest.
First I underestimated the speed that the network of conservative bloggers would spread the word that the voting had begun, and second I was caught off guard by the big boys taking an interest in winning.
I think the handicap did a great job of evening the playing field. I had an egghead buddy check it out, and he said that it was surprisingly linear – egghead for fair I guess.
With that fixed I am moving on to fixing the one month voting window, which I now realize is not necessary. A week should be plenty of time for the late entries to get their people here to vote.
Now the polls will close one week from today – Tuesday June the 5th at midnight.
Sorry that the nomination process is now closed. I left the nomination process open for three months, and then had a two-day late entry window.

Update: I have decided on making this contest a little more interesting. Since so many big name blogs are in the mix, I have decided to create a handicap system based on the Alexa rankings.
Each site has an Alexa raking — #1 being the biggest site in world. I used Granny Jan’s blog ranking as the baseline number for a small blog in this example. What I will do is take the smallest blog ranking of the blogs entered, and handicap the results like below.
The only difference from this example, will be that I would take the largest blog (probably the lovely Pam Geller), make her rank (0), and then subtract her rank from the rest of the blog rankings. This would make Pam increase 0% and Granny Jan’s percentage increase would remain 100%. A blog smaller than Granny’s could have an increase of greater than 100%.
You can do the math to see if you are winning. Biggest blog rank subtracted from each ranking – biggest blog rank reduced to (0) – the reduced number of (lower limit) Granny’s original ranking (2,366,741 – ????) divided by the reduced ranking of each blog will give the amount in percent to increase each vote count.
It is pretty easy; even for a Jethro Bodine ciphering dipwadd like me.

About The Contest
There are thousands of super cool personalities in the conservative blogosphere. This award is not only an attempt to find the coolest, but also to celebrate the rest of them.
When I first started blogging, I sent a tip to Andrew Brietbart on just on a whim. It was before he became so famous by bringing down ACORN, but he still was a big time blogger. I almost fell down when I received a return email. I first thought it was a robo-email until I read it. He thanked me and said that he had already run story, but that he appreciated my effort.
I remember thinking “that is one cool SOB.” He took time out of his busy schedule to answer an email from a nobody blogger who was a stranger to boot.
He is not the only blogger out there that excels in: all around coolness, class, common courtesy, etiquette, selflessness, and genuine respect for the efforts of other conservative bloggers — no matter how minimum.
So in honor of him and other classy SOBS like him, I am kicking off the first annual “Coolest SOB In The Conservative Blogoshpere” award.
