CHARLOTTE – Earlier this week, when asked about the possibility of Patrick Ewing becoming a NBA head coach, Orlando Magic head coach Stan Van Gundy gushed about Ewing’s potential and offered amazement that he hasn’t already gotten the opportunity.
Given Ewing’s reputation for coachability dating to his high school days, Van Gundy certainly has a point.
More importantly for Charlotte Bobcats’ fans, is Ewing the perfect candidate to become owner Michael Jordan’s next coach?
It’s hard to say, but it’s also quite clear Ewing has at least been on Jordan’s radar for quite some time.
Ewing’s name was circulated as a potential replacement in Charlotte in December 2010 when Larry Brown was fired and Paul Silas was eventually hired as the replacement.
And given Ewing’s longtime friendship with Jordan, many consider Ewing the odds-on favorite to be the next Bobcats coach this time around, even as the Bobcats have either interviewed or are expected to interview five other candidates.
