UPDATE: Rep. Brown will perform the “Vagina Monologues” on the House steps this evening. Because what is more important than vaginas? Certainly not jobs or the foreclosure rate in Michigan.
Was it Tourette’s Syndrome Awareness Day at the Michigan State House? Of course not! It was just another friendly abortion debate pitting evil Republicans against vaginas everywhere.
Rep. Lisa Brown, a Democrat from suburban Detroit, was silenced after Republicans who control the chamber said she violated decorum. While speaking Wednesday against a bill requiring doctors to ensure women aren’t coerced into ending their pregnancies, Brown told Republicans, “I’m flattered you’re all so concerned about my vagina. But no means no.” Continue reading here…
Rep. Barb Byrum was also barred from speaking Friday after violating the same rules of decorum by uttering the word “vasectomies” when asked to step away from the microphone.
While I find their speaking bans a little ridiculous, I wonder about the intent behind their words. Does Rep. Brown think anyone cares about her vagina? Does she believe the abortion debate is about controlling women? Does Rep. Byrum equate vasectomy coverage to murdering a child? Really?
A Facebook friend appears to follow the Democratic playbook on the issue.
Here’s the thing Democrats fail to accept. When you expect the government (i.e. taxpayers) to pay for your birth control, abortions, and “reproductive rights,” you are BEGGING for interference. You want the government to be in charge of what you do with your own body.
Trust me, Rep. Brown, no one cares about your vagina less than I do. I DO care about your expecting me to pay for it’s needs, however.
